F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2021 Hungarian GP

Sergio Perez (Accident, Lap 1): 7/10
Sergio Perez continues to struggle to match his Red Bull team mate's single lap speed and he was over nine tenths slower than Max Verstappen in first practice - and even further behind on Saturday morning. But these concerns notwithstanding, Perez is still managing to deliver when it really counts and ensured that he was lining up alongside Verstappen on the second row of the grid on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately he was then caught up in the same first corner incident as Max, when Valtteri Bottas out-braked himself and ran into Lando Norris which pushed the McLaren into the pair of Bulls. Verstappen was able to take the restart but the extensive damage left him struggling to take home even a single point, whereas Perez had been even less fortunate and was heading off to his summer holidays earlier than he'd wanted.

Valtteri Bottas (Accident, Lap 1): 6.5/10
After playing a key role in helping Lewis Hamilton win at Silverstone, Valtteri Bottas seriously messed up this week. An indication of the pressure he's under to prove himself and somehow stave off his looming exit from Brackley at the end of the year, perhaps? He had been in good form on Friday, second in FP1 and then topping FP2, and he duly helped Mercedes lock out the front row of the grid for the start of Sunday's race. It should have been relatively straightforward from there and the team was doubtless hoping for if not outright expecting a 1-2 on the podium, but a terrible start with massive amounts of wheel spin saw Bottas immediately drop to fifth. He then braked too late in the wet conditions into turn 1 and ran into Lando Norris, sparking the game of skittles that also swept up both Red Bulls. It's about the worst mistake we can recall the Finn making in recent years, and he'll have a five place grid penalty at Spa to remind him of his transgression when F1 reconvenes at the end of the month.
