F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2022 United States GP

Mick Schumacher (P14): 6/10
Mick Schumacher desperately needs some strong performances in the remaining races of 2022 if he's to win Guenther Steiner over to the idea that he deserves a third season with Haas. Unfortunately, despite spending much of Sunday afternoon on the cusp of a point or two, this won't be the weekend that convinces his boss. He was slowest of anyone bar the four rookies in FP1 but at least he didn't damage the car, unlike Antonio Giovinazzi who was sitting in for Kevin Magnussen. He was P19 (slower than Nicholas Latifi and only quicker than Zhou Guanyu who had been sidelined by a hydraulic issue). He decisively missed the cut at the end of the first round of qualifying but made steady progress in the first stint of the race to peak in P9 before pitting under the safety car. He ran the second stint in tenth but was on the wrong strategy: his second stop on lap 33 for hard tyres effectively marooned him at the back without possibility of parole.

Pierre Gasly (P13): 5.5/10
Pierre Gasly really is a little bundled up ball of rage right now, isn't he? He can barely keep his anger toward the AlphaTauri squad hidden even in the most innocuous of team radio exchanges. He had a decent time in practice only to miss the cut at at the end of the second round of qualifying. In the race, he gained three spots at the start and eventually pitted from P8 on lap 11. He fought back from there and took the second restart in seventh, but the stewards weren't happy with how he'd driven behind the safety car and gave him a five second penalty. They weren't happy with how he served that one, either, and so he got a second for good measure which dropped him to the back. He did well to recover so many positions in the closing laps, but really it was all a result of self-inflicted harm that had cost him a chance of points.
