Zhou Guanyu (P16): 6/10
Alfa Romeo continues to struggle this season, making it hard for Zhou Guanyu to show what he's capable of. He was able to pip his team mate Valtteri Bottas in second practice by eight thousandths of a second, but while he was able to survive the first cut in qualifying he couldn't join Valtteri Bottas in the final top ten shoot-out. Starting from 14th place on the grid he was frankly rather anonymous in the race itself, losing two places on the opening lap which left him stuck in a DRS train behind Yuki Tsunoda for the first half of the afternoon. Having started on the hard tyre he held out until lap 31 before pitting, which dropped him back behind Bottas who had pitted much earlier having started on mediums. Zhou did manage to pass Lando Norris on lap 48 but was unable to do anything about getting around Nico Hulkenberg before time ran out.
Nico Hulkenberg (P15): 6.5/10
Haas are showing flashes of some really promising form, but are struggling to sustain it long enough to acquire the results and points to match. He was kicking himself after crashing in practice on Friday - "I wanted it a bit too much, a bit too soon and paid the price for it" - and was disappointed not o join his team mate in the final round of qualifying. Kevin Magnussen's fourth place grid slot showed that the VF-23 had genuine pace in Miami, but Hulkenberg wasn't able to replicate it for himself. He had a solid start to the race and ran in 11th place, having started on the hard compound. He stayed out until lap 33 by which time the tyres were beyond dead. The strategy hadn't worked out for him and he resumed the race in 16th place behind Lando Norris. While he soon got the better of the McLaren he then got wedged into a DRS train behind the likes of Yuki Tsunoda, Alex Albon and Lance Stroll, not taking to the mediums and basically forced to meekly follow the cars in front to the finish.
