Alexander Albon (P14): 7/10
Alex Albon had a good Friday, putting the Williams into the top ten by the end of second practice and then going one better in final practice on Saturday morning. He looked set for another Q3 appearance but ended up missing out and had to settle for 11th on the grid for the start of the race on Sunday. That still looked pretty promising and suggested there was a chance of points on offer, but the stars didn't align on Sunday. He was picked off by Nico Hulkenberg on the first lap and spent much of the opening stint on mediums stuck behind the hard-shod Haas. He then pitted on lap 22 which dropped him to 17th place just behind Lando Norris. He got the better of the McLaren on lap 27 and then found himself locked in a long DRS train staring at the back of an Alfa Romeo for most of the remaining time, before the chequered flag put him out of his misery - and leaving him out of the points.
Valtteri Bottas (P13): 6.5/10
Valtteri Bottas was 14th in both of Friday's free practice sessions, but he had dropped behind his Alfa Romeo team mate Zhou Guanyu in the process which wasn't part of the plan. Maybe it gave him extra motivation on Saturday, as he was boosted to P7 in final practice and subsequently delivered on that potential by making it all the way through to the final round of qualifying. He was one of two drivers to get caught out by the early red flag finish in Q3 leaving him without a time and starting from P10 in the race. Beginning on medium tyres gave him an early opportunity to pass Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon on the first lap, but both drivers were able to swiftly snatch their lost spots back over the next four laps. After making his pit stop on lap 15 Bottas settled in behind Charles Leclerc, but the Alfa wasn't a match for the Ferrari when it came to threading its way through the field and Bottas increasingly lost touch, his forward progress coming to a halt long before he threatened the points.
