F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2023 Qatar GP

Logan Sargeant (S DNF, GP DNF): 5/10
It's been a terrible few weeks for Logan Sargeant. We like the guy, but even we've started to fear that his Williams seat for 2023 is beyond saving. He did a little better in Qatar and was unlucky to miss the cut at the end of the first round of qualifying; but he was slowest of all in the Sprint Showdown, and then in the Sprint itself he simply spun out on his own accord. It later emerged that he had been feeling unwell for much of the week, and the hot and humid conditions on Sunday only made matters worse as he became acutely dehydrated forcing him to retire on lap 40. Just how serious his condition was was made clear by how he had to be helped out of the cockpit and dispatched to the medical centre. His determination to get as far as he did was commendable and gets him an extra half point.

Liam Lawson (S DNF, GP P17): 5/10
This is almost certainly Liam Lawson's final F1 outing with AlphaTauri for the time being, with Daniel Ricciardo set to return from injury at the Circuit of the Americas in two weeks time. Unfortunately it was also Lawson's weakest performance of his five-race stand-in run, with either the track or the superheated conditions not suiting him. He was quite far off the cut at the end of Q1 on Friday and then got caught up in a messy start to the Sprint tangling with Logan Sargeant which eliminated him on the first lap. In Sunday's race he was almost entirely anonymous and came in last of those still running, one lap down. It's a shame to see the Kiwi go out with a whimper rather than a bang, but we're sure he'll be back and all the better for his experiences.
