Oscar Piastri (Pole, S P1, GP P2, 26 pts): 10/10
An extraordinary break-through weekend for Oscar Piastri. He's been getting better and better every race since the mid-season break, putting the improved MCL60 to good use and becoming an increasing threat to his team mate Lando Norris as the pair as a whole turned up the heat on Red Bull. Taking pole and his first F1 race win in the Sprint on Saturday confirmed just how good Piastri is. It's a shame that he had his crucial qualifying time deleted on Friday and it was heartbreaking to watch him be told live on TV during a media interview that he would actually start the Grand Prix from sixth, but it revealed a lovely dry sense of humour from the rookie. When Mercedes self-destructed on Sunday he played a perfect hand to pick up second place. Afterwards, when an interviewer approached him and said "We've just been told..." his off-the cuff response - thinking he'd been given another post-session sanction - was a treat. "Scared the crap outta me!"
Max Verstappen (S P2, Pole, GP P1, Fastest lap, 33 pts): 9.5/10
It seems a little cruel that Max Verstappen clinches his third world championship and wins Sunday night's Grand Prix from pole together with the bonus point for fastest lap, and still doesn't come out on top in this week's F1i ratings, but that's just how things go sometimes. Verstappen came in to the weekend knowing the title was his long before Sergio Perez ended up in the gravel in the Sprint race, and by his own ferocious standards Verstappen looked quite laid back this weekend - perhaps a sensible precaution given the toll that the heat in Lusail took on everyone. He drove well within himself, and this was most visible in the Sprint where he was content to hang back in the first half and as a result left himself out of time to take the win. He didn't need to, of course, but it was a surprise to see Max not going all out for once. Surely he can't actually be human after all?
