Zhou Guanyu (P18): 5.5/10
Zhou Guanyu actually had half of a decent race in Jeddah, performing well in the first stint after starting from the back of the grid, and then deciding not to pit when the early safety car came out for Lance Stroll's accident. He ended up running in the points for a dozen laps, but once he pitted on lap 42 a problem with fitting a new set of tyres to the Sauber dropped him to the back where he remained to the finish. We don't blame him for the sticky tyre, but we do have to take marks off him for his FP3 crash which meant he was unable to set a time in qualifying, which was the root of his poor result on Saturday.
Valtteri Bottas (P17): 4.5/10
Valtteri Bottas has been distinctly sub-par in the first two races of 2024, and we're worried that it's becoming a habit for the Finn who appears to be fading before our eyes. He started the race on soft tyres, joined the crowd pitting under the safety car for a set of mediums, but lasted only until lap 35 before pitting a second time for more softs, all while his Sauber team mate Zhou Guanyu was still making the most of his initial set of mediums. Even with the new softs, he made no progress at all in the closing stages of the race and only finished ahead of Zhou because of the latter's hold-up on pit lane. There's very little positive we can find to say about Bottas' weekend.
