Logan Sargeant (P14): 6/10
His Thursday practice performances suggested that Logan Sargeant was in with a shout of getting through to the second round of qualifying, but being sidelined in FP3 dashed any such hopes and the Williams was left lining up on the back row of the grid for the race. He was among the majority of drivers to start on mediums and pit under the safety car for a set of hards to take him to the finish, meaning he had little opportunity to benefit in terms of strategy. He was able to get the better of Valtteri Bottas on lap 15 and followed his team mate Alex Albon for a spell, but then couldn't find a way to follow Albon past Yuki Tsunoda and remained stuck behind the RB to the finish. Not an especially bad weekend for the American, just eminently mediocre.
Esteban Ocon (P13): 7/10
Alpine looked slightly healthier this week than they had been in the season opener in Bahrain. While Pierre Gasly wasn't able to show it in the race because of his gearbox failure, Esteban Ocon took maximum advantage of what the car had to offer this week. By no means the slowest car on the road in practice, he still missed the first cut in qualifying but made solid if unspectacular progress in the race from P17 on the grid. Pitting under the safety car for a set of hards to see him to the finish, he was overtaken by Alex Albon on lap 43 to drop him back a place in 13th. Points were never in the offing, but there was enough here to suggest there might be better things to come for Alpine in the not entirely distant future.
