Kevin Magnussen (P12): 5/10
Kevin Magnussen certainly made his presence known in Jeddah, and not in an entirely positive way. After a solid start to the race which saw him pick up a net one place after the safety car pit stops, Magnussen then tangled with Williams' Alex Albon and got into what would prove to be a lasting feud with RB's Yuki Tsunoda who was trying everything he could to get past. In the process, Magnussen earned himself two ten-second penalties that we actually think were somewhat harsh in proportion with the actual offences. Magnussen was acting with solid reasons in that he was trying to hold up the pack to help out his team mate Nico Hulkenberg, a tactic that paid off well for the team even if Magnussen himself had no chance of finishing in the points himself by then.
Alex Albon (P11): 7/10
This year's Williams isn't looking particularly strong, and Alex Albon went backwards over the three practice sessions in Jeddah and was somewhat fortunate that events helped him get through to the second round of qualifying. Starting the race from 12th and getting jumped by Kevin Magnussen on the first lap meant he was stuck in the congested midfield. His attempt to get back around the Haas resulted in contact that left him with wing damage for the rest of the race, and in the circumstances he did well to keep running and finish on the cusp of the points. However none of this is a proper indicator of what Albon and the FW46 can do in a clean race.
