F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2024 Chinese GP

Alexander Albon (P12): 7/10
Last season we could rely on Alex Albon to deliver some sort of noteworthy performance at every weekend, but this season has just been flat and frustrating for both the driver and his team. Williams seems to have taken a backward step in terms of pace and performance, not to mention a critical lack of spare points which is making them more cautious than is good for them. Albon did at least get through to the second round of qualifying on Saturday and was comfortably quicker than his team mate Logan Sargeant on all occasions, but these are the very least achievements we expect from Albon at this point. The car is making it very difficult for him to deliver any more and 12th on Sunday (even with three retirements elsewhere) is about the best he could reasonably have been hoping for.

Esteban Ocon (P11): 7.5/10
Esteban Ocon continues to be the top driver at Alpine, punching well above the weight of the car's sub-par chassis and engine package. He has whitewashed team mate Pierre Gasly in the five Grand Prix qualifying sessions so far, although he was pipped to grid position for the Sprint race. Despite a new floor this weekend, Ocon wasn't given any real opportunities to get close to the points in the Sprint, but fared better on Sunday with various incidents behind the safety car enabling him to get within a whisker of the top ten. It suggests that he - and Alpine as a whole - might not remain pointless in the championship for too much longer.
