Nico Hulkenberg, Haas (P18): 5/10
Up to now, Haas had been one of the success stories of the early part of the season. But recent outings have seen them hit a bit of a speed bump, and Spa especially so. Nico Hulkenberg's famed qualifying strength deserted him in Saturday's wet conditions and starting from 16th on the grid left him with little chance to improve matters on Sunday. He found himself permanently struck in traffic and not even an early pit stop strategy could salvage anything from the situation. At least he has his exit from Haas planned, although news about management turmoil at Audi won't have been very reassuring as he takes his place on the sun lounger.
Logan Sargeant, Williams (P17): 5.5/10
Was this the last time we'll see Logan Sargeant in a Formula 1 car? The broad consensus in the paddock is that the American is well and truly done. The only question is when the announcement will come and who will be taking over. But actually the last few races haven't been too bad for Sargeant and he's delivered some solid results, but it's almost certainly too late. Only a barnstormer performance at Spa might possibly have moved the dial, but no such heroics were forthcoming this week and it was a low key finish to his tenure, qualifying in 18th and making no impact in the race. There was nothing here to make James Vowles think again about what he needs to do over the summer break.
