FORCE INDIA CHANGES COURSE

Externally, the VJM11 looks a lot like its predecessor. However, it suffers from an aerodynamic issue (a “fluctuating rear load” according to Andrew Green technical director), caused by a poor correlation between the wind tunnel and reality.

Under the front bonnet, there are two notable differences. First, the heave element was moved back, to avoid the unsightly “bubble” which was seen on the VJM10.

Secondly, the steering rack has been lowered (compare the yellow arrows) to align the steering tie rods with the lower wishbones. This solution, more interesting in terms of aerodynamics, was inaugurated in 2015 on the Mercedes W06, before being copied by several teams.
