A CASING IN POINT

The gearbox casing of the FW38 is made out of aluminium. Renault and Manor, which run a Williams transmission, use the same material, whereas other teams have a carbon casing.

However, Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas’ 2016-spec challenger does feature a carbon rear crash structure.

The starter motor hole is easy to spot on the middle image, while the bottom picture shows several suspension elements such as the torsion bars, the heave spring, etc.
