Alex Albon returned to the highest step of the podium on Sunday at the Nürburgring, thanks to a maiden win conquered in the German DTM series.

The Red Bull reserve driver blasted off from pole at the wheel of his AF Corse Ferrari to lead the field and manage his way through two Safety Car periods to cross the checkered flag with a 4.6s edge over the Mercedes of Daniel Juncadella.

"Yes, guys! Well done! What a race," enthused Albon when all was said and done, flanked by his lucky charm, girlfriend Lily.

"That was a really good day for my team and for myself. The team has worked hard overnight and that paid off. They have done a mega job, the car felt great throughout.

"Today, we have made a step forward, we want to carry this momentum."

With 82 points, Albon is in fourth place at the halfway point of the DTM season. ABT Audi driver Kelvin van der Linde, who retired at the Nürburgring on Sunday, remains at the top of the standings."
