Formula E unveils revamped branding for Gen3 era

Formula E is marking the advent of its Gen3 era by introducing an all-new look and branding for the all-electric series.

Formula E will roll out its radical third-generation machine in Mexico City on January 14 against the backdrop of a new identity and logo "inspired by the instant torque of electric acceleration".

"At the heart of the new system is the Torque Loop that represents the excitement and energy at the core of the brand and the sport," stated Formula E.

"This self-sustaining loop is the source of the new logo, typeface and the brand’s new animation principles."

Formula E's rebranding will be rolled out over the coming days, weeks and months starting with Formula E’s digital estate that include a website and app that will enhance fan experience.

But in addition to its revamped visual identity, the series has also designed an "all-new sonic identity" for Formula E, with the new sound of the Gen3 cars being integrated into the "new broadcast title music and a full broadcast score".

On the sporting front, Formula E's Season 9 will see the debuts of the new McLaren and Maserati teams, borne out of their respective Mercedes EQ and Venturi foundations.

Formula E's 2022/23 calendar, that will run from January 14 to July 30, will feature three new cities hosting a round of the ABB FIA World Championship: Hyderabad, India (Round 4, 11 February), Cape Town, South Africa (Round 5, 25 February) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (Round 6, 25 March).

Tweaks to the series' sporting rules mean that rookie drivers will be able to take part in FP1 sessions during the year, while there will also be a 30-second 4kWh ‘Attack Charge’ boost at certain races.

Finally, races will run once again over a number of laps instead of a set time period.
