Prior to Stoffel Vandoorne’s points-scoring debut in Bahrain, Jérôme d’Ambrosio was the most recent Belgian racer to have competed in a Formula One weekend. Having spent one season at Marussia Virgin Racing in 2011, d’Ambrosio was then appointed as Lotus F1 team’s reserve driver and replaced Romain Grosjean in Monza after the Frenchman received a one-year ban for causing a massive crash at the start of the Belgian Grand Prix.
