Musical chairs: the 2019 driver line-up takes shape

Haas F1 Team

Romain Grosjean (FRA) Haas F1 Team VF-18 and Kevin Magnussen (DEN) Haas VF-18 celebrate with the team

PROBABLE

Kevin Magnussen
Haas holds an option on Magnussen's services for 2019 and it would be a big surprise if it wasn't exercised. It's the first time that the Dane has been at a team for a second year and he's thrived on the sense of continuity and performed much better and more reliably than his team mate. It's hard to see what else he could have done to convince team boss Guenther Steiner to keep him on and we can probably expect a confirmation in September.

POSSIBLE

Romain Grosjean
Once the mainstay of the American squad, Grosjean's accident-prone season and temperamental outbursts over the pit radio seem to have taken their toll on relations between driver and team. Haas could well still decide to keep him on for another season, but there's an increasing sense that the French driver has had his time and is heading to the departure lounge with the team looking around at who else is available on the market.

Charles Leclerc
If Charles Leclerc doesn't get promoted directly into the Ferrari team for 2019, there's a chance that Haas might be a good 'halfway house" to enable the scuderia to continue to manage his development. Whether this will appeal to Leclerc, or whether it would be better for him to simply have a second season at Sauber, is another question.
