One last quick primer on F1's new rules for 2019

Brake ducts and barge boards

Clever engineers always find ways to make a component or aero element multi-task, and that’s what they did with the brake duct, basically designed for the purpose of cooling… the brakes.

However, its purpose was extended to include the channeling a surplus of air to areas where it is most needed and effective. This year, in a bid once again to decrease the outwash, the mandatory simpler designs should bring the duct back to its basic function: cooling!

By the same token, F1's 2019 barge boards are also simplified, and will be smaller by 150 mm and pushed forward by 100 mm, again to decrease their aero efficiency.
