F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 British Grand Prix

Alex Albon (P8, 4 pts): 7/10
This was arguably Alex Albon's most problematic weekend since his promotion to Red Bull last summer, but it wasn't entirely his fault and he still managed to show glimpses of what he can do in adversity. He was second fastest of anyone on Friday afternoon, but also overcooked it and crashed heavily toward the end of the session. He then lost track time in final practice while the Red Bull mechanics hunted down a battery problem on his car, and perhaps this cost him a few vital tenths in qualifying and with it the chance of making it through to the final round. The race itself also started badly for him when he collided with Kevin Magnussen at the end of the first lap, punting the Haas off into the gravel and earning himself a five second penalty in the process, but fortunately without suffering lasting damage to his own car. A precautionary pit stop after the safety car dumped him to the back of the field from where he laboured all afternoon to recover - and to his credit, a change to fresh mediums on lap 31 gave him the advantage he needed over the midfield runners to make up nine places in the final 20 laps including an easy pass on Sebastian Vettel to finish in the points despite everything.

Pierre Gasly (P7, 6 pts): 8/10
While Albon was struggling at Silverstone, Pierre Gasly was on top form - immediately sparking gossip of whether another like-for-like swap of Red Bull and AlphaTauri drivers might be on the cards. During Friday and Saturday he was consistently hovering around tenth place, but he just came up short in qualifying when he set exactly the same time as Lance Stroll (but crucially, moments after the Racing Point did it) which meant he lined up on the grid in 11th. His pit stop under safety car conditions dropped him to 13th, but after that it was all forward progress as he made up positions with passes on Antonio Giovinazzi, Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll before further benefitting from the tyre woes experienced by Valtteri Bottas and Carlos Sainz to finish in a creditable seventh place at the line.
