F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2022 British GP

Nicholas Latifi (P12): 8/10
We've been giving Nicholas Latifi a lot of flak this season for his poor performances. And we make no apologies, because he really has appeared all at sea since Alex Albon joined Williams at the start of the season. But this week the roles were reversed: while Albon seemed to be struggling under the weight of all the new upgrades on the FW44, once some sluggish practice sessions were out of the way, Latifi seemed as light and free as a bird and surprisingly thrived in the wet conditions of qualifying. He put in what was perhaps his best single lap of the season so far to jump out of the drop zone and avoid elimination at the end of Q1, while Albon unusually missed the cut/ Latifi then did even better to make it through to the final round as well, although car damage meant he was unable to put in a time meaning he started from tenth. He was realistic about being in an artificially inflated position among much faster cars, but managed to stay in the points for the first 31 laps before finally being forced out by Mick Schumacher. A gallant try though.

Lance Stoll (P11): 6/10
Lance Stroll has been going through a difficult period of late. With his team mate growing more confident by the week and looking increasingly like the four-time former world champion he is, Stroll has wilted in the shadows, not helped by an Aston Martin that seems stubbornly resistant to any upgrades the team can throw at it. He was actually faster than Vettel on Friday but then slipped three tenths behind in FP3. He really didn't like the wet conditions in qualifying that left him dead last on the grid on Sunday but at least that kept him out of harm's way during the aborted first start. After the restart he pottered along at the back for much of the race, with only the accident-prone, penalty-hit Yuki Tsunoda behind him, but on lap 33 he passed Daniel Ricciardo and then on lap 48 he was able to dispatch Nicholas Latifi to get within touching distance of the points. Significantly better than might have been expected given his otherwise lacklustre performance at Silverstone.
