F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2022 British GP

Kevin Magnussen (P10, 1 pt): 6.5/10
Kevin Magnussen was struggling to find the right balance for the Haas VF-22 all through practice, although the performance of his team mate Mick Schumacher made him confident that it was there somewhere. The arrival of rain just before the start of qualifying also cheered him up, but it proved to be false optimism and he ended up a disappointing 17th after missing the cut at the end of Q1. Given all that, it hardly looked like it was going to be a race of any note for the Dane on Sunday. But actually it exceeded expectations and might have been even better still if his initial flier at the start hadn't been invalidated by the red flag. He went for a single stop strategy which lifted him into 12th; the safety car closed the field up and he stayed out as others pitted, but then his older tyres lost out to Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher at the restart shuffling him back to tenth, where he nonetheless contributed to the team's first double points finish of 2022.

Sebastian Vettel (P9, 2 pts): 6.5/10
Should we give Sebastian Vettel an extra point in the ratings in lieu of birthday bumps? No, we shouldn't, and nor do we need to because the four-time world champion is quite deserving of a solid score this week, despite a shockingly poor performance in the first round of qualifying that saw him miss the cut at the end of Q1 and thereby consigning him to 18th place on the grid. On Sunday during the first start, he was caught out by the sudden compression of the field caused by Zhou Guanyu's huge accident up ahead and ended up rear ending the Williams of Alex Albon, sending the Williams into a spin that saw it sustain secondary contacts from other cars. Vettel himself would have been done if the ensuing red flag hadn't allowed the team to repair his front wing. An odd decision to pit very soon after the restart left him at the back, but by the time the others made their own stops he had advanced to seventh place. The safety car came at just the right time for his second service - although he lost out to Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher at the final restart, leaving him in ninth at the chequered flag.
