F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2022 Singapore GP

Kevin Magnussen (P12): 7/10
It was clear that the Haas VF-22 wasn't really enjoying itself at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend, but Kevin Magnussen made the most of it from the start and was consistently running just outside the top ten in all three practice sessions, even the rain-hit FP3 when he was P11. Surviving the first cut in qualifying seemed only to be expected, but Magnussen did better than that and made it all the way into the top ten pole shoot-out to put himself into ninth place on the grid for Sunday race. Unfortunately he immediately went side-by-side with Max Verstappen: bumping wheels with the Red Bull left Magnussen with front wing damage, and for the third time this year he was served a black-and-orange flag (why does this always happen to Kevin?) mandating him to pit for repairs, dropping him to the back. There was very little he could do from there but at least the incident between his team mate Mick Schumacher and Mercedes' George Russell gained him two spots by the finish.

Valtteri Bottas (P11): 5.5/10
After a nondescript opening session, Valtteri Bottas was in the top ten in FP2. We can set aside the shortened, rain-hit final practice when he was P18 (but still ahead of his Alfa Romeo team mate Zhou Guanyu), but it was unquestionably disappointing to miss the cut at the end of the first round of qualifying after misjudging the traffic, while Zhou was two tenths quicker and just squeaked through. Starting so far down the grid on a track where overtaking is far from easy: beaten into the first corner by Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo, at least he had the chance to move ahead of Zhou. After that there was nothing more he could realistically do except fall into line with Ocon, until the Alpine's engine cut out on lap 27. After that he spent a spell behind Yuki Tsunoda until the AlphaTauri in turn crashed out of the race. The final safety car enabled him to get within touching distance of the points, but Pierre Gasly stubbornly held on to tenth through to the finish line leaving Bottas out of the points and out of luck once again.
