A small inlet on the Mercedes

Mercedes has added tiny inlets on the W06 Hybrid’s brake ducts. The latter feature an almost flat surface and feed cooling air to the front brakes. Having a smooth surface on that kind of deflector perceptibly improves how the air flows around the wheel, but does require an actual inlet to ensure sufficient brake cooling. The 2015-spec ducts remain more compact than on last year’s W05, which shows that engineers at Brackley have pushed to come up with a brake duct design that does not have any opening. The inlets are covered with mesh so that potential debris (including tyre marbles) can’t block the passage and trigger overheating issues.
