In a move that might leave Formula 1 fans feeling a bit tipsy, Spanish beer brand Estrella Galicia 0.0 which has long been associated with Carlos Sainz has rejoined the McLaren Formula 1 team’s pool of sponsors after a three-year hiatus with Ferrari.

The revolving door move paves the way for Italian beer brand Peroni, formerly associated with Aston Martin, to take over as Ferrari's non-alcoholic beverage partner.

Estrella Galicia has had a long-standing relationship with Sainz in Formula 1, having supported the Scuderia charger since his GP3 days in 2013.

The company's involvement in Formula 1 began in 2015 with Toro Rosso and continued with Renault, McLaren, and finally Ferrari.

However, last year's announcement of Ferrari's multi-year deal with Asahi Europe and International Ltd signaled the end of Estrella Galicia's partnership with the Scuderia.

This prompted the Spanish brand to seek an alternative partner, ultimately finding a home back at McLaren.

“We are delighted to welcome Estrella Galicia back to the McLaren Racing family,” commented Matt Dennington, Executive Director, Partnerships & Accelerator, McLaren Racing.

“We enjoyed a fantastic partnership throughout 2019 and 2020, and it is great to now continue our journey together.

“We’re excited about the upcoming season and building on the positive momentum we had last year, and it’s fantastic to go racing with Estrella Galicia alongside us.”

José Cabanas, Chief Marketing Officer, Estrella Galicia, said:

“As part of our internationalisation process, having great partners alongside you is a key factor for success.

“McLaren Racing and Estrella Galicia not only share common values such as authenticity, craftmanship, and innovation but also a strong spirit of differentiation and a non-conformist attitude in everything they do.

“We are thrilled to start a new chapter in our F1 journey in papaya colours and I’m sure that we will have great things to toast for during the season”.
