When Red Bull follows a Mercedes trend
Just like Ferrari had done at Silverstone, Red Bull drew some inspiration from current benchmark Mercedes in order to modify the shape of its RB11’s front camera pods. Last year, the Milton Keynes-based squad could not mount the system internally – inside the “vanity panel” – and had to go for an external and more traditional installation instead.
At Budapest, the camera pods had a water-drop-like design and were raised by slender pillars, similar to those of the Mercedes W06 and Ferrari SF15-T. These aim to divert the pods’ dirty wake from the main airflow.
