McLaren – Looking in the news mirrors and ahead to the future
McLaren remains a creative team and does not need to wait on his engine partner to bring new developments to its chassis. After presenting a major upgrade in Austria – featuring a shorter nose, a revamped front wing and a revised floor – chief engineer Peter Prodromou and McLaren aerodynamicists have steadily introduced a series of new components on the MP4-30.
Its rearview mirrors and adjacent vanes had been redesigned prior to Hungary. The mirrors were fixed on new props that widen at the base, while the triangular winglet has been replaced by a L-shaped vane. Since these revised aero elements change how the air flows towards the back of the car, it was only natural for McLaren to alter the MP4-30’s sidepods accordingly…
