F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2021 US Grand Prix

Lance Stroll (P12): 6/10
Lance Stroll had a decent Friday (he finished ahead of his Aston Martin team mate Sebastian Vettel) but seemed to go backwards on Saturday and was a surprise early casualty when he missed the cut at the end of the first round after being caught out by sundry yellow flags. Penalties for other drivers (including Vettel) promoted him to 13th on the grid for the start, but he was involved in a collision at the first corner which left him at the back of the field carrying front wing damage. Staying out longer than others ahead enabled him to climb back to ninth place, but that had to be repaid when he finally made his pit stop. He found himself stuck in no man's land for the rest of the afternoon although a last lap mishap for Kimi Raikkonen saw him pick up a place at the end to cross the line in 12th. "It was not our weekend," he admitted. "I was hit at turn 1 on the very first lap ... It cost us some performance, but we still managed to fight our way up the field. However points were just out of reach in the end. It is a race to forget."

Antonio Giovinazzi (P11): 7/10
Antonio Giovinazzi remains the only driver on the grid still unsure about his future in the sport. He's trying his best to lay down a marker to hold on to his seat at Alfa Romeo in 2022, but while there have been some stand-out strong moments it's still not coming together where it matters in terms of race results. This week he was in the top ten in Friday practice but dropped off the pace on Saturday, leaving him starting the race from 12th. Although he quickly got past Esteban Ocon, he then found himself stuck behind the battle between Pierre Gasly, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas for eighth, ninth and tenth. After the pit stops, Kimi Raikkonen was moved ahead of him leaving Giovinazzi picking up the Finn's battle with Fernando Alonso only to run off the track while fending for the position and told by the race stewards to hand it back to the Spaniard. A second round of pit stops and Alonso's subsequent retirement restored Giovinazzi to 11th until he was picked off by Sebastian Vettel on lap 49. Vettel then applied pressure to Raikkonen who ran wide off the track; Giovinazzi was one of the beneficiaries, but he was still short of the points finish for which his team mate had been looking set.
