Pierre Gasly (P16): 6/10
His team mate Esteban Ocon might have broken Alpine's duck in Miami, but Pierre Gasly is still seeking his first championship point in 2024 and right now it's hard to see where that's going to come from. He initially looked to have the edge over Ocon this week, but seemed to go backwards over the three practice sessions. He made the first cut in qualifying to line up in 15th place on the grid, but an early pit stop left him trapped in a long backlog of traffic with almost no opportunity for forward progress. Ocon started higher, pitted later, passed Gasly in the final laps but ultimately fared little better.
Zhou Guanyu (P15): 5.5/10
Zhou Guanyu's straight line qualifying potential seems to have peaked and he's continually losing out to his Sauber team mate Valtteri Bottas on Saturdays, which suggests that his time at the team might be approaching its natural conclusion. On this occasion his poor grid position might actually have played to his advantage as it meant the team put him on a long first stint which worked much better than Bottas's early visit to pit lane. It gave Zhou much fresher tyres at the end of the race to make up a few positions on the Finn, and on some others.
