F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2024 Spanish GP

Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin (P12): 6.5/10
Neither Fernando Alonso nor Lance Stroll seemed to be able to find much performance in the Aston Martin this weekend. Alonso spent practice haunting the threshold of the top ten but he wasn't able to make the final cut for the top ten pole shoot-out round. He did end up starting from P10 thanks to the application of Sergio Perez' three place penalty held over from Montreal, but he lost out to the Mexican on the first lap and was then passed by Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas before making his first stop of the day. Delaying his second service until lap 45 helped him recoup some places, and passing Zhou Guanyu on lap 53 meant he finished in P12. However it was a disappointing second double DNF in three races for the team and not what Alonso wanted for his home event.

Nico Hulkenberg, Haas (P11): 7/10
Given that it wasn't the greatest of weekends for Haas as a whole, Nico Hulkenberg did well to get within touching distance of points in Barcelona. He missed out on first practice in favour of Oliver Bearman and never convincingly looked like making the top ten in any of the remaining sessions or in qualifying. He got a good start to the race and leapt up ahead of Sergio Perez for the first 11 laps, frustrating the Red Bull's attempt to recover from a grid penalty. Once Perez finally passed him, Hulkenberg pitted and ended up behind Oscar Piastri. But while the McLaren made progress, Hulkenberg found himself stuck behind Esteban Ocon for the rest of the afternoon meaning he just missed out on picking up points, through little fault of his own.
