Like on all other power units, the oil tank of the Ferrari 059/4 is placed between the chassis and the engine. The installation improves the package’s centre of gravity and allows for shorter and lighter pipework.
The oil tank is split from the engine when the latter features a dry pump system. F1 cars have elongated oil tanks, as the shape is better suited to cope with the centrifugal forces encountered through cornering.
