5 — Williams: A little inspiration from Ferrari?

Along with revised barge-boards and brake ducts, the Williams also sported a new vane on its floor in Austria, a part similar in its philosophy to the piece Ferrari has positioned in the same area on its Ferrari SF15-T.

While the exact rationale behind the element remains unclear, we can assume it aims at cleaning the dirty wake coming off the rear wheels in order to ensure optimum operating conditions for the diffuser. Looking at the double flap’s positioning, the device would thus create a thin and highly energised layer of air that would suck the dirty wake upwards.
