12 — Novelty pokes its nose out on the Force India

Force India trialled a brand new nose on its VJM08 at the recent Austria test, as the Silverstone-based outfit works towards introducing its long-awaited B-spec car during next weekend’s British Grand Prix.

The updated assembly features a very original design and differs from the other three solutions that are currently en vogue in the sport: the long noses (Sauber and Ferrari), the short noses (Mercedes, Lotus), and the thumb noses (Williams, Red Bull, and now McLaren). While Force India’s unique concept remains fairly long, it has been pierced with a couple of “nostrils”, which aim at maximising airflow circulation under the nose.

Therefore, it looks like technical director Andy green and his team have tried to combine the best of two worlds, namely getting the same benefits as with a short nose while keeping a longer design.
