Mokpo

I’m not the first to have pointed out the fact that many people’s top tracks all start with the letter “M.” Melbourne, Montreal, Monaco are strong contenders for favourite race and if we look at venues we’ve lost over the years, I’d add Mokpo. Yes, I know it got some bad press, but that was mainly because we ended up staying in “Love Motels.” Once you accept the fact that people have sex in normal hotels too, it wasn’t quite that bad. There are definitely a couple of the current venues I’d be happy to swap for a return to South Korea. One press officer was obsessed with not touching the door knob in her room and I asked her what strange practice could possibly involve body fluids finding their way there. The track was pretty interesting with high speed sections, the Korean version of a Bullet Train was far cheaper than its Japanese counterpart for the trip from Seoul and the free wifi was very fast. And Mokpo had some good places to eat – in the rest of the world they’re known as Korean Barbecue restaurants but I guess they’re just restaurants here. But it was never going to last: it was meant to be a street circuit and sadly they never got round to building the town to go with it.
