With nothing to lose, the Russian and his engineer opted for an extremely early first stop. Smart move: he picked up several spots. Attacking from lights out to chequers, he survived a hard fought skirmish with Magnussen to double his season points tally. Now he has to sort out this qualifying mystery so that it does not repeat itself.
