The Russian was unlucky on Saturday. His final run to advance to Q3 was aborted following Vandoorne’s mishap. But with the penalties for McLaren-Honda he started in the top ten. He ran a consistent race, ahead of Hamilton just until the pit stops. He was ninth when Pérez ploughed into him at Rascasse, causing unfixable damage to the Toro Rosso.
