Vettel held up his end of the deal. Sharing row one with Hamilton was all he hoped for. A perfect launch off the line put him into the lead, but the pace of the Mercedes was just too much. His gamble of changing tyres with less than 20 laps remaining paid off. Barring a genuine miracle, his deficit of 66 points with three races remaining is now a task too far.
