After giving himself quite a scare in Q1, Carlos moved on to Q3 without the use of the new Renault front-wing. While in the top-10, he made his stop just prior to the safety car period, and free-fell down the order. He came back in and switched to intermediates. But he kept pushing to move back into the top-10 when he was penalised 10 seconds for overtaking Ericcson - whom he believed was a lap behind - under full course yellow.
