Romain Grosjean (P16): 6/10
This was another anonymous weekend for Haas and for Romain Grosjean, and it was no surprise when both he and his team mate Kevin Magnussen were emphatically eliminated at the end of the first round of wet qualifying on Saturday afternoon. But then there was that brilliant, inspired moment when both men dived into pit lane at the end of the formation lap to change their intermediate tyres for slicks: while it meant starting the race from pit lane and subsequently incurring a ten second penalty, they were catapulted into the top four when everyone else then had to pit under green just minutes later. While Magnussen was able to use this stroke of luck to finish in the top ten, Grosjean suffered contact with Alexander Albon and was left with damage meaning he could do nothing to arrest his slow but inexorable decline over the course of the afternoon. It's the unflattering comparison with his team mate's fortunes that really hurts Grosjean's rating.
Kimi Raikkonen (P15): 5.5/10
Kimi Raikkonen missed out on Friday morning practice in favour of Alfa Romeo's reserve driver Robert Kubica, and seemed behind the curve for much of the rest of the weekend. Even so, ending up as the slowest man in qualifying must have been a painful insult for the man who was after all world champion in 2007. The race itself offered little opportunity for him to bounce back from such ignominy and he hardly garlanded himself with honour when he lined up incorrectly on the grid and was duly handed a five second penalty by the race stewards. The best thing that can be said is that he finished ahead of his team mate, and he got a consolation prize of sorts with a one place boost after the finish when Romain Grosjean was penalised for use of 'driver aids' (which in this context bizarrely meant receiving a team radio message from pit lane). It's doubtful that Kimi was even remotely thrilled by this final development.
