Roberto Merhi
As one of Manor’s drivers last year, Merhi deserves a mention but has all but ruled himself out of the running already. A slow start as he struggled with the Pirelli tyres gave way to improving performances in 2015, and he was impressive when jumping back in the car in Russia after sitting out two races following Rossi’s arrival.
Having been run by Manor in F3 previously, Merhi was very much a John Booth and Graeme Lowdon choice, so their departure from the team really hit any fading hopes he had of retaining his drive. Sadly finished the season with an uncompetitive result having struggled with the car’s handling in Abu Dhabi, and a lack of financial backing means it’s unlikely the Spaniard will return.
