Nikita Mazepin (P18): 5.5/10
It won't be a shock to hear that Nikita Mazepin went for the odd spin in practice at the Red Bull Ring, or that he was some way behind the pace of his Haas team mate Mick Schumacher on this way to qualifying in last place on the grid for the race. But credit where it's due, the Russian had a brilliant start on Sunday and by lap 2 he was not only ahead of Schumacher but up to the heady heights of 15th place. Of course that was never likely to last given the chronic performance problems of the VF-21, but he managed to stay ahead of Schumacher until he pitted first on lap 21. Schumacher stayed out for another dozen laps and then dropped behind Mazepin again when he came back out, but the older tyres meant the Russian wasn't able to hold Schumacher back and he ceded the position on lap 40, and then dropped to the back behind Nicholas Latifi on lap 63. Even so, the race was incident free and the Haas boys had produced a fair degree of fun between themselves to pass away the time.
Nicholas Latifi (P17): 6.5/10
He might not have made it through to the second round of qualifying but it had still been a solid Saturday for Nicholas Latifi. He had been very close to pipping Daniel Ricciardo at the end of Q1 to move out of the elimination zone. On Sunday, starting from 16th place meant that he was unfortunately caught up in Pierre Gasly's troubles when the race got underway and he sustained a puncture. That forced him to pit for a new set of tyres at the end of the first lap which meant he dropped to the back, which is where he stayed for the rest of the afternoon - right up until lap 63 when he finally got the better of Nikita Mazepin, allowing him to avoid the ignominy of the wooden spoon which most definitely would not have been deserved this weekend.
