F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2021 Styrian GP

Yuki Tsunoda (P10, 1 pt): 7/10
After a fraught few weeks for the AlphaTauri rookie, Yuki Tsunoda looked more composed and level-headed this week at the Red Bull Ring with a trouble-free time in practice which saw only a single deleted lap time for exceeding track limits - better than most of his peers fared. With no spins or other incidents of note, he worked his way steadily through into the final round of qualifying and was set to start the race from eighth place before the race stewards interceded. Deciding that he had impeded Valtteri Bottas during the session, they handed him a three place grid penalty for Sunday. He was passed by Daniel Ricciardo at the start but soon got the place back when the McLaren suffered a brief bout of power unit issues, and was briefly promoted to eighth when George Russell hit problems of his own and retired from the field. After his own pit stop on lap 26 he settled in behind Fernando Alonso and he remained in the Alpine's wheel tracks for the rest of the afternoon, including a moment when both cars were passed in quick succession by a recovering Charles Leclerc. He was duly rewarded for his quiet, conscientious with the team's only point of the day after Pierre Gasly's early exit.

Fernando Alonso (P9, 2 pts): 7.5/10
After a rocky start to his latest F1 stint, Fernando Alonso has found his feet and a level of consistency that means he's now finished in the points in the last three races - which is nothing to be sniffed at, as his Alpine team mate Esteban Ocon can attest. Ocon might have been the faster of the pair on Friday, but Alonso came good on Saturday and progressed to the final round of qualifying while Ocon fell at the first hurdle. In the race, the former two-time world champion maintained seventh place all the way to the first round of pit stops, but then got stuck behind Lance Stroll. On lap 55 he was powerless to prevent Charles Leclerc passing him on fresh tyres which dropped him down to ninth place by the finish. "We had a good start and fought with two or three cars," he said of a decent day's work. "I don't think we could do much more than ninth position today, but it's good to score some more points for the team."
