Lance Stroll (P8, 4 pts): 7.5/10
A strangely anonymous weekend for Lance Stroll, but a solid and productive one for all that. He was a promising eighth fastest in both of Friday's practice sessions and was still in the top ten in FP3, and so it was taken for granted that he would make it through to the last round of qualifying which he duly did, while his Aston Martin team mate Sebastian Vettel missed the final cut. He deftly sidestepped the incidents elsewhere on the first lap of the race and picked up sixth place as a result, settling in ahead of Fernando Alonso until his pit stop on lap 28 briefly made him the filling in an Alpine sandwich. He took care of Esteban Ocon on lap 36 and was handed another position when Daniel Ricciardo pitted on lap 41, but he was powerless to prevent both Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc passing him on fresher rubber in the closing stages. The final dozen laps saw him once again stalked by Alonso on the way to finishing in eighth place.
Charles Leclerc (P7, 6 pts): 9/10
Charles Leclerc had quite the eventful day of it on Sunday, which is a surprise as he looked a bit off the pace throughout practice and only qualified in seventh place for the race itself. Trying too hard to make up for lost ground he clashed with Pierre Gasly on the opening lap, damaging his own front wing which forced him to pit for repairs and dropped him down to the back of the order, his day seemingly wrecked before it had really started. But from there he put in a remarkable comeback drive with passes on pretty much the entire midfield, some better judged than others: after catching and taking care of the usual backmarker suspects he went on to force his way round Antonio Giovinazzi on lap 22 and Esteban Ocon two laps later; after his second pit stop he got the better of Kimi Raikkonen on lap 41, Giovinazzi again on lap 45, and then rapid moves on Sebastian Vettel, Yuki Tsunoda, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll to reach seventh place tucked in behind his team mate Carlos Sainz who had been having a calmer time. Strategists will be studying what Leclerc was able to do on a two-stopper at the Red Bull Ring for some time to come.
