F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2023 Italian GP

Valtteri Bottas (P10, 1 pt): 6.5/10
One of our colleagues described the performance of the Alfa Romeo at Monza as "asthmatic slug pace", which is a bit harsh but on the other hand pretty accurate. That Valtteri Bottas managed to wrangle the wheezing C43 into the points at the end of the Italian GP is therefore quite an achievement. It's only the third time this season that the Finn has been in the top ten (the last time was in Canada). It wouldn't have happened without Oscar Piastri's late clash with Lewis Hamilton, but we won't begrudge Bottas that stroke of good fortune.

Fernando Alonso (P9, 2 pts): 7/10
Last week at Zandvoort it looked like Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso were back in business with a fine second place. This week on the other hand they looked anonymous and never close to a place on the podium. In fact even points were a struggle in Monza. While he made it to the final round of qualifying, Alonso was the slowest car in Q3 and admitted that was where he'd more or less expected to be given that the circuit did not suit the AMR23. He spent the race largely tucked up behind Lewis Hamilton and lucked into a bonus spot when Hamilton took out Oscar Piastri on lap 41, but otherwise Alonso looked like he was biding his time this week.
