F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2023 Italian GP

Lando Norris (P8, 4 pts): 7/10
For so long, Lando Norris has been McLaren's boy wonder'. But perhaps time is starting to catch up with him, because he was struggling to match the pace of his rookie team mate Oscar Piastri in FP2 and FP3, and ended up qualifying two places behind the Aussie. Then in the race the two clashed wheel-to-wheel and earned a rebuke from team boss Andrea Stella. While he was finally placed ahead of Piastri on track, Norris then found himself unable to find a way past Alex Albon - in a Williams! - who was doing an impressive job at defending. While it wasn't a bad performance for Norris by any means, you'd have to say that it was all just a bit ... ordinary.

Alexander Albon (P7, 6 pts): 9/10
Once upon a time we were in raptures to see a Williams anywhere near the top ten at any point during the weekend. Now it looks like Alex Albon has moved in and taken a long term rental on the location. Nobody even blinks an eye anymore when he cruises into the final top ten pole shoot-out round in qualifying. While he lost a net place in the race, that underplays just how good he was on Sunday as he battled to defend his position against Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris all afternoon, only finally succumbing to Lewis Hamilton in the closing laps. Afterward he described it as "probably the race I'm most proud of", and we heartily agree.
