F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2023 Italian GP

Charles Leclerc (P4, 12 pts): 9/10
Charles Leclerc really needed a restorative tonic after the disappointment of Zandvoort, and by and large that's what he got this weekend. Monza was the best form we've seen from Leclerc and Ferrari as whole for several months, and they would surely have got away with a win if it wasn't for those pesky Red Bulls. The fly in the ointment as far as Leclerc is concerned is that Carlos Sainz was faster in every single session, and even held out in the final laps of the race despite the Spaniard having cooked his tyres battling the Red Bulls earlier in the race. We're not talking anything approaching number two status for the Monegasque yet, but Leclerc will not be wild about the unfolding situation.

Carlos Sainz (P3, 15 pts): 9.5/10
As far as we're concerned, Carlos Sainz was the driver of the weekend as he took the battle to Max Verstappen on Ferrari's home turf. Even after he was fastest in FP2 and FP3 we didn't expect him to beat Max to pole in qualifying, but he did. And even though he spoke about the Tifosi daring to dream we did't think he would be in the lead of the race for very long on Sunday. But he was! In the end the brutal reality of the Red Bull's dominance won out, but Sainz put in a strong show of resistance and then raced hard but fair with his team mate Charles Leclerc to keep his well-deserved podium. Excellent stuff, Carlos.
