RED BULL – TAMING THE HEAT

The heat released by an F1 power unit, which comprises the internal combustion engine (ICE), the energy recovery systems (ERS), as well as the radiators lodged in the sidepods, leads teams to install heat shields under the bodywork.

Thus, the exhaust pipes are wrapped in an insulating sheet, while the engine and turbocharger are covered with carbon panels that have been coated with insulating material (probably Zircotec).

Besides their heat-shielding function, these elements also contribute to the car’s internal aerodynamics.
