ERS PROWESS
Like on all other 2016-spec power units, the MGU-K has been re-positioned on the left-hand side of the Mercedes plant. The manufacturer’s proficiency in energy recovery systems (ERS) comes from the long expertise of its Brixworth engineers.
In the close-up above, one can spot the FIA sticker that probably shows the specification and model of the part, knowing that only five MGU-Ks are allowed for the whole season.
On the top image, one can see again the carbon duct that goes from the air inlet and feeds both the gearbox cooler and ERS radiator, the latter of which is located ahead of the exhaust plume and closed off with a carbon cover. One of the two wastegate tailpipes is also visible.
