HONDA DITCHES ITS LOG MANIFOLD DESIGN
Having already sampled its latest engine specification on Fernando Alonso’s MP4-30 at Sochi, Honda finally gave the updated power unit its race debut at COTA. The RA615H used to have a log manifold – which had been a distinctive feature on Mercedes’ 2014-spec package – but the Japanese manufacturer has replaced it with multi-tube exhausts.
Each solution has its own advantages, but the longer, more conventional manifold exhausts offer more leeway to regulate exhaust gasses across all RPMs.
The new set-up also led to the exhaust tailpipe being elevated and moved away from the MP4-30’s rear crash structure.
