Carlos complained of excess oversteer in qualifying, but he still lined up alongside Nico on row four, and when the lights went out he overtook his team mate. Despite having to change his hypersofts early on, the Spaniard was back in the top ten and should have gone on for a strong point tally when Renault suddenly shut down, as was the case at COTA.
