HONDA EXHAUSTING ALL THE OPTIONS

McLaren could use the upgraded Honda power unit on both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button’s MP4-30 for the first time in Mexico. For the latest specification of its RA615H, the Japanese manufacturer has ditched the log manifold design to replace it with more conventional multi-tube exhausts – a solution that had already been adopted by all the other engine suppliers.

Basically, each cylinder has its own exhaust, with the three pipes then merging into the collector. Here is an image of the installation we had not seen before.

This technical gallery is a selection of the novelties seen in Mexico, and does not intend to be an exhaustive list. It shall for instance be mentioned that Sauber had a new detail at the bottom of the C34’s cockpit, while Toro Rosso fitted its STR10 with new brake ducts that drew some inspiration from a McLaren design.
